An early start on Friday morning started the European championships. A half six flight out of Dublin airport left us all wanting a good surf. Sunday started with a 9am meeting where it was decided that Bakio would be the competition site for the day, so after getting boats onto the car and everything packed up we headed over the mountain to see what the conditions were like. Everyone woke early on Saturday with fingers crossed that the conditions would be the same as Friday. Up again this morning at earlier than seven and on the road by half- big day with a new competition between the top 4 teams all gunning for top spot. Ups and downs with firsts and 4ths took it down to the wire with our second count back of the contest to go in our favour left us in second place with the basques as champions and the jerseys and english in third and 4th respectively. an exciting day today with many ups and downs. the team event hung in the balance with crucial points given away to leave england, basque, jersey all qualified and ni drawn with usa west and after a tense countback we came out on top with one more first place. the afternoon saw the ladies, juniors and grand masters long and short boat finals will keep you all udated tomorrow cheers chloe

team event on bakio beach yesterday with both competition sites offering some heavy sets but the biggest being on site A (at the east end of the strand). no broken boats or people yet thankfully and some impressive surfing. ni are still in the mix for finals qualification but a good deal rests on round 2. this started with a pre-sunrise call to go to mundaka where the first 7 heats ran on small
