Canelo “panicking” From Pressure To Fight ‘Mexican Monster’ Benavidez – Says Jose Sr

Trainer Jose Benavidez Sr. says feels that undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is “panicking” from the pressure that is being put on him by fans everywhere to face ‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez, and he literally doesn’t know what to do.

Jose Sr. says Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) can’t escape the fans asking him ‘When is he going to fight the Mexican Monster,’ and it’s angering him. Benavidez Sr. believes that if Canelo doesn’t face Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs), he’ll be “haunted” for the rest of his life for failing to take the fight.

Of course, you twist that around and say that Benavidez is facing the same pressure to face David Morrell, who they want to see him fight to earn his shot at Canelo believe he hasn’t done that during his ten-year career with the weak resume that he has, which only one name, Caleb Plant, among the 27 wins.

Benavidez had the chance to fight WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion Morrell for his world title but chose 35-year-old Demetrius Andrade to fight instead, a fighter who just moved up to 168 last January and didn’t look good beating journeyman Demond Nicholson. The fact that Benavidez didn’t want the Morrell fight proves two things:

1. Benavidez is worried about losing
2. Only looking for a payday against Canelo

It’s already been established that Benavidez & Jose Sr. have been hungry for the Canelo payday and pushing for the fight for the last five years when David’s resume was empty of wins over top-tier contenders.

Canelo will be “haunted” if he doesn’t fight Benavidez

“Hopefully, Canelo will wake up and say, ‘I want Benavidez next,’ and that’ll happen right away because we want to fight him. Negotiations will not be bad. Let’s do it. We’re more focused on getting the opportunity because if we beat Canelo, the skies are the limit,” said Jose Benavidez Jr. to Fight Hub TV about his obsession with getting the Canelo Alvarez fight for his son Dad Benavidez.

The neediness that Benavidez & Jose Sr. show towards Canelo is so off-putting it’s beyond words. It’s just a classic example of people who don’t want to put in the hard work to earn the fight and instead want it to be given to them without risk.

Instead of begging, Jose Sr. should have Benavidez earn it by running the gauntlet against these killers first:

  • Dmitry Bivol
  • David Morrell
  • Jermall Charlo
  • Artur Beterbiev
  • Terence Crawford
  • Janibek Alimkhanuly

If Benavidez can beat all of those fighters, you can say that he’s earned the Canelo fight, and Jose Sr. can start crowing from morning until night for the match. Without beating those guys, Benavidez & Jose Jr. need to pipe down and know their place.

“I believe there’s so much pressure from so many people. Wherever he goes, they mention David Benavidez, ‘The Mexican Monster,’” said Jose Sr. about his belief that Canelo is feeling pressure to fight Benavdiez from the fans.

There’s no pressure on Canelo from fans. The pressure is coming from Benavidez & Jose Sr, opening their yaps on a daily, talking nonstop about the fight, but without fighting killers, Morrell, Bivol, Beterbiev, or Crawford to earn it.

“I think they’re just tired of hearing that name,” said Jose Sr. talking his dream vision. “Imagine if Canelo retires and doesn’t fight David, that’s going to haunt him for life. For us, it’s not a problem. For him, can he retire knowing that he didn’t want to fight the ‘Mexican Monster?’

Everywhere he goes, that name, it’s going to haunt him. It’s going to be there. So why not face him? He’s the face of boxing. He’s the best at 168,” said Benavidez Sr.

If Canelo retires without fighting Benavidez, he’ll be fine, enjoying his estimated $200 million fortune, and live quite well in Mexico or wherever, without feeling regret for not fighting him. Why should Canelo feel haunted?

If Benavidez doesn’t want to take risks like Canelo did by fighting dangerous guys like Bivol, Beterbiev, or Morrell, Alvarez doesn’t owe him anything. Is it asking too much for Benavidez to fight those three?

“Beat him. It’ll be the biggest fight for so many years that we haven’t seen,” said Jose Sr about how Canelo would supposedly be in the biggest fight in years if he were to face Benavidez, even though he’s unproven and chose not to prove himself by fighting Morrell or Bivol.

“It’ll be a big, big fight, and a fight that a lot of people will want to see, and I believe he’ll make more money on this fight than any of his fights,” said Jose Sr.

“It’ll be a shame [if the Canelo vs. Benavidez fight fails to happen], so why stress? As long as he leaves all those belts, so we can come and get them. Bye. You don’t want payday?

“He’ll get the best payday, and I’m not thinking about money. I’m thinking about having him in the ring, and that’s all we’re thinking of,” said Jose Sr. about Canelo getting the biggest payday fighting Benavidez.

Alvarez “panicking” from fan-press to face ‘The Mexican Monster’

“I think it would be a fantasy fight. I don’t even think about Canelo. My respects,” said Benavidez Sr. “He’s done so much for boxing. They can say whatever they want to say. That doesn’t mean they want to fight. They’re just trying to buy time. They’re trying to protect him.”

If Jose Sr. doesn’t “even think about Canelo,” then why is he talking about him? It’s pretty obvious that he can’t get Canelo out of his mind, and is tortured thinking about that fight possibly not happening if he retires suddenly or if Benavidez can no longer make 168 and is forced to move up to 175, where he arguably should be fighting given his massive size.

“Like I said, they’re so tired of hearing the ‘Mexican Monster.’ He gets mad when they [Canelo] hear that he’s [Benavidez] the ‘Mexican Monster.’ A guy like him, he wants to be the only one. They’re panicking. Thank God, we’re not going to be in his position,” said Jose Sr.

“It’ll change David’s life forever. Why focus on the money when the money will come later? We just want to get him inside the ring, and we’ll do the minimum, and whatever he’s happy with, whatever it takes to make that fight, we’re willing to do.
