Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Texas captured upwards of 354 pounds of methamphetamine on Saturday flooding through the United States’s border with Mexico.
The seizure took place at about 4 p.m. after the narcotics were discovered in the hidden compartment of the bed of a pickup truck at the El Paso port, according to a release by CBP.

Officers were conditioning a pre-primary enforcement operation when the Dodge Ram vehicle, driven by a female Mexican national, approached and alerted a CBP drug dog.
The dog led authorities to the bed of the truck and the vehicle was taken to a secondary location, according to the release.
A Z-Portal X-ray scan made officers aware of anomalies.
“A physical exam of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 161 foil-wrapped bundles hidden beneath the truck bed liner,” the release read. “The contents of the bundles tested positive for methamphetamine.”
The driver was taken into custody and turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety, where she is facing charges related to her failed smuggling attempt.

“This is an enormous seizure and demonstrates the need for CBP officers to remain vigilant at all times,” CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha said.
“CBP officers utilized a variety of tools to identify and stop this smuggler.”
